World Famous er....Toilets

On our way to The Bay Of Islaands we stopped in at Kawakawa to see the public toilets...and not just for the usual reason.  We had heard that these are an art instalation .  We had to stop to experience it...and to use the facilities.

We learned that the building had been designed by a famous European artist Frederick Hundertwasser, who lived in the area for a time until his death.  He designed the toilets and a storefront across the road.  In all honesty, we had not heard of him...

While we were there a train travelled down the middle of the main street.  All in all, a bit of a surreal experience!
