Goodbye to the Serengeti

After three wonderful camps in three completely different parts of the Serengeti it was time to say a sad goodbye.  We had seen so many things and had such wonderful guides that we were filled with sad feelings, knowing that we will not likely to be back.

When we reviewed our time there we marveled at the remarkable migration of the Wildebeest (aka Gnu), over 2000 kms from start to finish.  They face incredible hardships...deep fast moving water filled with crocodiles, drowning,  predators, loosing track of their young as their scent is washed away, to name but a few.  We had not previously understood the magnitude of this massive movement of over two million huge wildebeests.

This map shows the direction of migration of the Wildebeests

We saw big cats, cheetahs and leopards as well as small animals, like the "spiderman" lizard that has bright colours only during the mating season.

Agama manzna Lizard aka Spiderman Lizard

We also saw many, many birds some beautiful and some very unique!

We also saw the very elusive bat-eared fox!

This is a very shy animal and hard to find, but we were lucky to see some darting into their den.

We were lucky to see so many wonderful sights!

We boarded our plane to leave on our way to Stonetown in Zanzibar and had one last glimpse of the Serengeti from the air.
