Cheetahs

Cheetahs are the fastest land animal, able to run at 110 kph.  They stalk their prey but are not at all worried about being hidden because once they have chosen their next meal, they can outrun it.  This does not make them easy to find though as they tend to stay in the shade where their colouring is good camouflage.  They are magnificent creatures who are usually solitary.  They are found in groups only when they are females with her cubs, or if it is mating season.  We saw several cheetahs in our safari adventures.

We followed a mother and her almost fully grown cub as they were stalking prey.  They made an attempt at a young zebra but gave up.

We saw a male selecting a termite mound for his evening and night-time perch.  The high ground allows him to keep an eye out for predators.

We saw a female with her cubs.  The cubs were having fun rolicking in the shade.

These are magnificent creatures, with such sleek bodies and beautiful colouring.  We felt so privileged to have found them and to have been able to see them.
