Isle of Skye

The weather forecast had been favorable for viewing mountain- and sea- scapes and so we had formulated a plan to go to the Isle of Skye. As promised the sky was clear when we awoke and so we were off early. The mountains of Glen Nevis were spectacular in the morning sun.

Our drive took us past the Glen Garry Lookout...which afforded a view of a loch which, from this perspective, looks like a map of Scotland.

We pressed on and the landscpe changed as we approached the bridge to the Isle of Skye.

The first sight which meet us was the Cuillin Mountains, a high craggy range towering above the rod. We drove around a scenic road and stopped to see waterfalls. One in particular is well known, and well photographed as evidenced by the throngs of tourists at the lookout.

We drove around the two main peninsulas of the Island and marvelled at the changing scenery from mountains to moors to sea scapes.

We stayed in a guest house close to the bridge and close by was the ruined castle Moile (recently struck by lightening). The castle was built in 1263...and we continue to be astonished by the history that is everywhere. We walked in to enjoy the sunset from the castle's vantage point.
