Rain was once again threatening. The skies were overcast and clouds hovered around the mountain tops. We decided then to take a hike into Glen Nevis to see the second highest falls in the UK...the Steall Falls. The walk was relatively close to our hotel Glen Nevis and Loch Newwso we hoped to get the hike in before the rain fell.
The walk began at the end of a single track road and almost immediately headed up. It was a lovely hike over rocky paths. It gradually climbed past rivulets and small waterfalls, beside a rushing river and the gorge it has carved into the living rock.
Then we came upon Steall Falls...beautiful bridal veil falls roaring down the mountain side.
The trail came to a crossing of the river by way of tricky bridge. Paul took the initiative and crossed the bridge so he could see the falls up close. I demurred and stayed to watch him make his way over the one-wire bridge to the opposite bank.
Then we took a short drive to the south end of Loch Ness so we could see the famous loch. The rain was pouring by the time we reached the end of the Loch and we abandoned our goal as the visibility was so low and we couldn't see much.
The day ended with some grocery shopping and planning for the next few days.
