September 24 Driving through the Lake District

We wanted to take advantage of the weather forecast for the North and so decided to make this a driving day. We left the Liverpool area and headed north on the M6 headed to Penrith where we were planning to spend the night.

We left the M6 towards Levans and made our way to the Lake District where we had wanted to take a drive around to see the magnificent scenery. We knew that we could not stay for too long as Scotland was cling us and we thought to me time to com back to the Lake District later, it being more southerly.

We were almost immediately confronted with incredible scenery with beautiful mountains. There was rain in the offing and this added to the drama.

We stopped for a quick picnic beside a babbling Brook and continued onward to find a stone circle at Castlerigg which was a chance find.  The weather was so changable, rain,  sun, wind all within minutes.  The scenery was breathtaking!

Afterwards we decided to take side trip through the Honister mountain pass where even more spectacular scenery took our breath away.

Finally we arrived at our destination...the Leeming Hotel which to our delight is situated on the banks of a lovely lake, at the foot of gorgeous mountains.
