L.O.N.G. Day

When it was time to leave the quiet resort our car arrived to take us back to Stone Town.

We boarded a small plane in Stone Town enroute to Nairobi, Kenya where we boarded another plane (large commercial plane thia time) destined for Johannesburg, South Africa.  We were delayed by two hours and were met at 3 am by a driver who took us to a hotel which was 35 minutes away.  We finally got into bed around 4 am.  Our wake up was earlier than expected so we had a few short houra of sleep and were spirited off again to Johannesburg's airport to board a plane to Maun, Botswana.

There we boarded another very, very small plane which took us to a small airstrip near our next destination, Okuti camp.

In the end we had been in the airports of four countries in 24 hours!  We were exhausted!

We were in the Okavango Delta which is an incredible part of Botswana.  It is a completely untouched wilderness which gets flooded by waters coming from Angola.  The result, there is an abundance of wildlife attracted by the availability of water.

What stretched out ahead of us was 10 days of safari camps in three different camps in different parts of the delta.  In each camp we had incredible experiences and had at least one day which stood out.

On our first night at Okuti we were treated to a beautiful sunset over the reedy river outside our cabin.

We were admiring the exquisite sunset when a huge bird came soaring in and landing on a fence right outside our balcony.  It was a Pells Fishing Owl which is extremely rare and a sightting is eagerly sought by birders.
