Amazing Day at Okuti Camp

We saw a lot of wildelife in the course of 5 game drives.  The terrain is totally different from the Serengeti and the wldlife is different as well.

We had a most incredible day on our first day at Okuti.  In the morning, after an unsuccessful search for a Leopard we went to an area known as Third Bridge.

We found to our surprise a large pride of lions who were hunting!  We watched in fascination as they targetted nearby Wildebeest, and failed to bring anything down.  The lionesses were trying to work together but they had cubs with them whose playful antics kept spoiling efforts to surprise the Wildebeest.

To our surprise, a lioness who had stayed back in the rear managed to get a warthog, a mere snack for a lioness let alone a huge pride.  Once the unfortunate hog was dead the lioness who had caught the hog and another lioness fought over the meat!  They each had a grip on half of the meal and neither would let go!

In the end they each got a piece of fhe kill and one one male cub got a small piece.

Before we knew it the rest of the pride arrived looking for a share of the kill but the others had already run away with their meal!  They were so close to the vehicle it was voth fascinating and a bit unnerving at the ae time.

It was fascinating to watch the vultures and Jackalls arrive to find anything to scavange.  The jackall succeeded and then was surprised by the arrival of the big male, looking for his lunch!

We left when the excitment was over , had lunch and then took a boat game drive in fhe atternoon.  We were on the water less than 10 minutes when we came upon five elephants who were crossing the river, eating lilly pad flowers along the way.
