Northward to Snodonia

Our plan had been to head North in the hopes that the weather would be a little less wet and or cold as fall approaches. We had hoped that we might therefore include parts of Scotland on our trip. Unfortunately the weather has closed in and we awoke to a grey day with rain threatening. Yhw wind wa howling and we decided to take the day to travel northward and set off early.

Our first order of business was to get off the beaten track...which we did in spades.

We made our way to the Elan Valley, a picturesque area with reservoirs created by dams on rivers running through the area. The countryside is grassy and undulating with sheep and cattle sprinkled throughout. We wondered if it was a motor, or downs, or hearths that we were traversing and in the end decided harbor didn't matter...it was beautiful no matter the name.

The reservoirs and dams were also in lovely spots, although strong winds were joined with driving rain...so the visibility, and our willingness to be outside the car, were limited.

We went I from this area to Devil's Bridge. This is a bridge which is actually three bridges one top the other, constructed at different times in history over a spectacular waterfall.

We paid the entrance fee and the climbed down to the bottom of he falls by way of very steep steps and then back up again...366 steps to get up!

Then we made our way to the quaint town of Barmouth. By the time we got there the wind was blowing a gale, so we hunkered down in a guest house and made plans for the next day.
