Dec 2 - 3 Mallacoota

We carried on to a small town on the South coast called Mallacoota.  On our way we passed through old growth forests that have never been harvested.  Huge trees with significant undergrowth.

We passed through an area that was under a controlled burn.

As we approached Mallacotta we saw signs of the devestating fires of 2019.  The forests are regenerating right from the burnt trunks of the huge trees.

Despite the fire damage Mallacotta is a lovely place situated on a huge lake and along the coast of the Tasman Sea. We arranged to stay for two nights in a delightful apartment with a great patio and an ocean view.

We spent a relaxing night and a full day exploring the area.

We visited several beaches in the area and Paul finally made it into the ocean.

One beach was called Quarry Beach due to the remarkable stone formations in its cliffs.
We also explored the lake area and went down a rutted track to a secluded spot deep in the forest.

During the night we had a spectacular starry night and I finally saw the southern cross!
