Walking the York City Wall

The morning was overcast but no rain was falling so outdoors was the place to be. We took on the challenge of circumnavigating the old city of York on he top of the old defensive walls. It was so great to be outside and enjoying a relatively warm day.
The wall is very well preserved and we enjoyed the walk from gate to gate and watch tower to watch tower. We could imagine times of yore as we marvelled at the ability to walk on these old structures and to view the homes within the walls and the city that has grown outside them.

We stopped and saw the castle which dominates one end of the city and took a quick tour inside...including a climb to the top.

We also took quick tour of the Museum Grdens where we found the ruins of an old abby (St. Mary's)...and the hospital....and lovely flowers and other plants that are still in bloom and leaf.

Later we visited Jorvick, a museum devoted to the archialogical dig which took place in York and discovered incredible artifacts. These were preserved because of the environmental conditions in which they were found.

The museum had three parts. The first was an explanation and a revelation of the original dig site as it was found. The second was a clever reconstruction of the Viling Villge as it was in the year 960. Finally the third section had the actual artifacts on display that had been found in Yotk and many of these were amazing! Even fabrics and leathers are so well preserved their designs could still be seen.

We finished off the day with a visit to a movie theater to see "A Star Is Born".  The theatre was fantastic and old play house that had been refurbished. The seats were actually couches!
